I am blond
until my roots start to show.
I am tall
until I slip out of my heels.
I am slender
until I peel off my Spanx.
I am busty
until my push-up is gone.
I have porcelain skin
until I wash my makeup off.
I have 20/20 vision
until I take my contacts out.
I have pearly teeth
until I stop bleaching.
I have ruby nails
until they get chipped.
I am graceful
until I trip.
I am smart
until I goof.
I am funny
until I flop.
I am loved.
I am still loved.

The prompt for today was a combination of NaPoWriMo’s “write a poem that tells a lie” and Robert Lee Brewer’s “Write a bright poem. Write a dark poem.” So the first line was a natural. 😉
Yes, you are! Always!

Thanks, Seb. I take that as a high compliment from a man with a talent for words.

The last two lines are a great twist! I like the Spanx reference, too, and the structure. Nicely done!

Thanks, Marilyn! My husband’s comment was “you don’t even wear Spanx!” Aha–many levels of lying in this poem. 🙂

Thanks, Pam! I needed a good creativity kick in the you-know-what. The nice thing about writing a poem a day is that you can relax a little and not worry about making each poem “perfect.” Plus, I like the camaraderie! 🙂
