Week 2 has been full of ups and downs. After week 1, I struggled to figure out where the plot was going. (Plot? What plot?) I took a day for a planning session, then again made progress, finally catching up on my target word count on Day 13.
And then I petered out again.
Yesterday I desperately emailed my husband at work for a pep talk. He dutifully called me and gave me a cheer.
Karin, Karin she’s our man! (Really??)
If she can’t do it, no one can!
Well, as nice as the sentiment is, I feel utterly at a loss as to where to go next. If I can figure that out, I’m confident I can catch up (again).
But that’s the problem! Aack!

Is it working yet?

I’m impressed that you have done so well – thats a great word count. Best wishes and maybe your muse just needs a little nap!

Thanks, David. I gave my muse a nap, then woke it up and told it to get back to work! I have a very lazy muse… 🙂

Maybe you are focusing on numbers at the expense of words.Ask yourself – whats more important – the word count or the words themselves. Perhaps you are blinding yourself to issues of quantity over quality.

You make a great point, Seb, and I agree that quality is paramount in the end. But I am way way way in the beginning of figuring out how to write a novel, and this particular exercise (for me at least) is all about turning off the internal editor and just WRITING. I think I actually WAS getting stuck on the quality issue. If I’m stuck and my plot doesn’t make sense, then why keep going?? I decided to make a few major changes (e.g., age of character) that will help me solve the problem, but that will require extensive revisions in the future. Of course, I’m not sure the quality will even warrant revision–more likely a total rewrite! But gosh I am sure learning something. 🙂 I really appreciate your comment–thank you!

You can do it… Maybe they just want to take a little vacation somewhere, and then you’ll find the plot en route?! Kudos on all you’re accomplishing. Inspiring!
