Haleakala
sunrise: a chilly island

Sunrise at the top of Mount Haleakala is spectacular, and well worth the drive. For those of us traveling west to Hawaii, it is easiest to do this drive on one of the first days you are in Hawaii, so that you are already awake early due to time-zone change. If you are really adventurous, you can ride a bike down the mountain–several touring companies organize rides (they haul the bicycles up and guide you down).
